Dr. Jose Santos, OD

Dr. Jose Santos was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Growing up on a small island, Dr. Santos developed a passion for life; living and enjoying life to the fullest. Dr. Santos enjoys any outdoor activities that involves a bright sunny Florida day. He is a proud husband and father of 2.

Dr. Santos is a Board Certified Optometric Physician. He graduated from the Inter American University School of Optometry in June of 2000. He has been passionately serving Tampa Bay for 18 years.

Dr. Santos practices Primary Eye Care optometry with an emphasis on the latest technology and personalized care.  Specialties include contact lenses, myopia control, prescription eyeglasses, and refractive surgery co-management. Dr. Santos performs comprehensive eye health examinations, and works with ophthalmologic subspecialties including vitreo-retinal, refractive, corneal, cataract, cosmetic reconstructive and glaucoma surgeons.  As a primary care specialist, Dr. Santos is able to detect, diagnose, and treat many vision conditions of the eye. At Safety Harbor Optical, the latest computerized diagnostic instrumentation is used, including scanning lasers to map the retina and measure the nerve fiber for early glaucoma detection.

Geno Spata, Licensed Optician

Targeting the right eyewear choice for every patient is the priority for Safety Harbor Optical Licensed Optician Geno Spata. Combining cutting edge technology and over 25 years of extensive optical experience, Geno has been engaging Safety Harbor Optical patients since 2007. His certifications include American Board of Opticianry and National Board of Contact Lens Examiners. A California native, Geno and his wife, Shirlene, moved to the Clearwater area in 2005. Running, boating, travel and photography top Geno’s favorite pastimes.

Karen Augustowski, Optometric Technician

Safety Harbor Optical’s soft-spoken and gentle guide to the pre-examination ophthalmic testing, Karen Augustowski is genuinely interested in the best experience for patients. A Safety Harbor Optical team member since 2000, Karen arrived in Pinellas County in 1995 after growing up in New Jersey, and spending time in Pennsylvania. Reading, walking, baking and watching old movies top her hobbies.

Rhonda Russell, Optical Technician

Citing the very friendly atmosphere at Safety Harbor Optical, Rhonda Russell is back for her second time.  Since returning from her home state of Illinois, Rhonda is assisting patients with eyeglass fitting, selections, and measurements.  Outgoing and energetic, Rhonda loves being a mom to her two daughters, and enjoys boating, cycling, and running.
